CBM Academy Training – Introduction Courses
Gain the basic skills and knowledge needed to learn about asset management processes with our introductory condition monitoring training courses.
The introductory condition monitoring courses provided by AVT Reliability® through CBM Academy are designed to give your team the core skills required to support asset management. With this knowledge, operators understand why analysis and assessment matter within a condition monitoring programme and can carry out basic procedures that improve reliability, efficiency and safety across your plant.
We offer a selection of introductory condition-based monitoring training courses to suit different roles and experience levels.
Introduction to Condition Monitoring
This introductory course provides a clear understanding of the effectiveness of condition monitoring and the technologies it encompasses.
Based on ISO 17359 methods and procedures, it introduces vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, thermography, and ultrasound as part of a complete predictive maintenance toolkit.
Introduction to Vibration Analysis (2-day course)
Vibration analysis is a core element of condition monitoring. Vibrations occur in all rotating machinery and changes in these vibrations can indicate mechanical faults such as unbalanced rotors or misaligned components. Understanding the fundamentals of vibration and how analysis can be applied to monitor asset condition is an essential skill for reliability and maintenance teams.
This 2-day course covers the basic principles of vibration theory, including vibration sources and the measurements needed to capture accurate data. It also explores methods for measuring and recording vibrations and shows how results can be interpreted to provide early warning of faults, enabling timely corrective action.
Introduction to Thermal Imaging (1-day course)
This introductory course explains the theory behind infrared thermography, giving participants a clear understanding of how heat maps are generated from thermal energy emitted by equipment surfaces.
The course covers data analysis techniques to identify and assess abnormalities that indicate faults such as worn components or lubrication issues. Demonstrations and hands-on practice with infrared cameras and other thermal imaging equipment are included to reinforce learning.
Introduction to Lubrication Management (1-day course)
This entry-level course introduces the fundamental principles of lubrication and the importance of selecting and maintaining the right lubricants. Participants will learn the theory of lubrication, how to choose the most effective lubricants for different applications, and best practices for maintaining their condition during both operation and storage.
The course also introduces the concept of Reliability Centred Lubrication (RCL) and demonstrates how it can be integrated into a condition-based maintenance programme to improve reliability and extend asset life.
Introduction to Rotor Dynamics (2-day course)
This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of rotor dynamics theory in turbomachinery and its relationship to vibration analysis. Participants will learn how rotor behaviour can be used to identify potential problems or failures before they become critical.
The course covers the range of measurements taken in rotor dynamics, normal and troubleshooting rotor behaviour, and how to determine which information is important. Attendees will gain skills in recording and analysing data to understand the effects of vibration on rotors.
Practical sessions include the use of a rotor dynamics kit, giving participants valuable hands-on experience to reinforce their understanding of real-world applications.
